Self-care for Small Business Owners

Running your own business can be hectic. And if you’re juggling your business with parenthood and other commitments it’s possible you could start feeling overwhelmed and like there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

Business and family are important so it’s equally important that you take self-care seriously. Burning the candle at both ends doesn’t help anyone!

So, how do you make sure you’re looking after yourself?

There are any number of ways to do this either on your own or with the support of others.

Set Boundaries

It’s really important that when you’re at home you are at home physically, mentally and emotionally. Switch off from work and focus on your family or any hobbies and interests you may have.

Take Time Off

Your business is important but working around the clock won’t be of any benefit to you in the long run. Make sure you schedule in time off and away from your business. If you’re taking a week off, make sure you are actually off the clock.

Find a mentor

A mentor will not only help you work towards success in your business, but they will keep you on track in other aspects of your life. You may need that person to help you realise that your business will still succeed even if you take some much-needed time to yourself.

Join groups

Groups can be a great support to you in a business or personal sense whether you attend in person or online. Connecting with other business owners who may be in a similar situation to you can be a great support and help you implement practices into your business and home life that will be beneficial.

If you are feeling really overwhelmed by everything, it may help to seek support. There are many organisations focussed on helping people manage the overwhelm.

Self-care is a really important aspect of life. Taking time out for yourself ensures you are the best you can be for your family and your business.
