Regardless of the type of profession you work in, it’s not uncommon to want to do everything you can to keep your clients or patients happy. And while looking after your clients and patients to keep them content is important, it’s equally important that you look after yourself while providing this optimal level of service.
How do you look after yourself as well as your clients and patients?
Sometimes we don’t realise that looking after ourselves is in fact looking after those that rely on us, i.e., our clients or patients. If we don’t look after ourselves, we may be in a position where we can’t work and in turn service clients and patients that need us. So how can we look after all involved?
Self-care
If you incorporate things like eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep or downtime from work then you’ll feel much more refreshed and better able to provide excellent quality care and service to your clients and patients.
Get help
Don’t try to do it all yourself. If you’re able to employ someone to help you with admin or your accounts this will free up some of your time so you can focus and spend more time on your clients and patients.
Take breaks
Often easier said than done, make sure you take time out of your busy day to eat lunch away from your desk or take a walk. A short break will re-energise you and put you in a better mood.
It’s also not a bad idea to take time off work whether it’s a couple of days or a week. It will give you the opportunity to recharge. This can also be a good opportunity for your clients and patients to be less reliant on you and solve the little issues that may pop up on their own rather than running to you. This will increase their confidence and resilience.
It can be hard to take a step back and take time out for yourself but looking after yourself and putting yourself first can also be of great benefit to your patients and clients.
